Trailer Tuesday feat I Love You Phillip Morris
Trailer Tuesday is a collection of all the past week's trailers, from Hollywood to the art-house.
I Love You Phillip Morris
Debuting roughly a year ago at the Sundance Film Festival, I Love You Phillip Morris feels like it will never come out. Focusing on Jim Carrey character, a con-man who goes to jail and falls in love with the titular character, the movie remains an enigma to me, in no small part due to Carrey. He is an actor of great talent, who far too often can fall into sentimental goofiness, and might be doing just that here. We will finally be able to tell soon. The film is set for a March release.
The Company Men
Veteran television director John Wells makes his feature film debut with The Company Men and so far, one can help but be a bit excited. A cast of Chris Cooper, Rosemarie DeWitt, Tommy Lee Jones and a back in the game Ben Affleck is appetizing, as is the decision to present these two minutes without a word of dialogue. The emotions are right there on screen, ready to be absorbed. Hopefully the film will be as original as the trailer. The film currently has no set release date.
The Good Guy
I love a good romantic film. This doesn look like that; a bland, flat tale of Alexis Bledel struggle to choose between a pair of dull fellas in New York City. It is writer/director Julio DePietro first outing, so a chance will of course be given, but the early footage doesn inspire much glee. The film is set for a February release.
The Most Dangerous Man in America: Daniel Ellsberg and the Pentagon Papers
Despite a ridiculously long title, this doc on Daniel Ellsberg appears quite fascinating. Unlike so many documentaries about Vietnam, this one appears far more focused, which may provide a sharper story. The film currently has no set release date.
Off and Running
This acclaimed festival favorite certainly seems to be worth the praise. A documentary about a young black woman, adopted at an early age by a family full of racially mixed brothers and sisters. Off and Running has the making of a touching, heartfelt story featuring a person trying to determine how to define herself. The film currently has no set release date.
North Face
Veteran music video director Philipp Stolzl drama certainly looks gripping. Already an awards winner overseas, this true life thriller about a pair of men climbing the Alps in wartime Germany is sure to be a heart-pounder. The film currently has no set release date.
Percy Jackson the Olympians: The Lightning Thief
How many trailers does our society really need for this thing? Hyped as the next Harry Potter, though it will unlikely be, Percy Jackson from the bits we been shown so far reveal one overriding thing; a bleh main character. A barely reheated, slightly snarky teenage boy, who is devoid of any distinctive personality. At least Steve Coogan is Hades. The film is set for a February release.
While I am always up for a dogfight, there is something entirely to untrue feeling about this true story. Historical facts look like they are barely even referenced, so admittedly, any true anticipation for this one is a little low.
